“Feng Shui is a living skill. There is an art to it. It’s scientific; it’s mathematical and at times it’s logical — with an element of magic.” — Lucy Deslandes
Feng Shui
The practice of Feng Shui, (feng shway), is a 3,000 year old art and science originating in China. Feng (meaning wind) and Shui (meaning water) are, in Chinese culture, understood to be two powerful forces that either support life or destroy it. Good Feng Shui creates good fortune while bad Feng Shui creates the energy of bad luck.
The practice of modern day Feng Shui can be thought of as the art of placement. Using the 8 sided figure called the Bagua, the Feng Shui practitioner is able to identify areas of imbalance in the nine critical areas of experience:
- Wealth
- Reputation
- Love Relationships
- Creativity
- Family
- Travel
- Helpful People
- Career
- Health
By instituting a variety of “cures”, balance can be restored optimizing the energy flow, (Chi), in order to create an environment that will encourage good fortune for all those who dwell within.
The Bagua
The Bagua is a one of the tools used by the Feng Shui practitioner to help locate and balance the 9 specific areas of energy within a given space. It is an energy map that directs the practitioner where Chi energy has gone out of balance, and what is necessary to “cure” that imbalance.
The Consultation
Once a consultation has been booked, a client can expect to:
- have a preliminary consultation (physical meeting, telephone call, etc.) to determine what issues need to be addressed, 30-60 minutes.
- supply a rough drawing of, or a professional blueprint of a floor plan, along with a rough drawing of the house and its placement on the property-including doorways, windows and all rooms.
- supply an approximate square footage of the house and property in question.
- secure a physical consultation date and time. A typical consultation takes about 1-2 hours.
- make payment according to the Red Envelope Tradition.
- receive a follow up communication 30-60 days after the appointment.
Red Envelope Tradition
This tradition holds that payment is made at the conclusion of the physical consultation in a red envelope. According to ancient tradition, the color red adds positive energy to the transaction, enhancing the auspicious nature of the work while encouraging the most positive outcome for the client.
